We suddenly had a major problem at the A-frame house next door to the Wondermagnet Research Laboratory Trailer -- thousands of nails to clean up out of the dirt (no concrete driveways up here)! The A-frame originally had a shake shingle roof, a serious fire hazard up here in the mountains (like covering your roof with kindling). It had to be stripped off before the new metal roof could be installed. Each shingle had 4 nails that had to be pulled, and with thousands of shingles...you can imagine the magnitude of the problem. That's Andy and Mitch hanging from ropes and climbing harnesses to strip the old shingles. They love jobs like this....

So we built the handy tool shown above. It made the job very fast and easy. Five of our surplus magnets are simply stuck to the old metal rake by their own attraction. This way you can pop the magnets off (wearing thick gloves so the nails don't prick you and the magnets don't pinch you!) and pull the nails off into your scrap bucket.

Results were astonishing! Much more powerful and effective than a big ceramic and iron "treasure hunter's" magnet -- the rake tines are magnetized, and dig into the dirt to get buried nails. Plus, you don't have to crawl around so it's easy on your back and knees. Total cost is about the same -- under forty bucks.
